Yes, you have found your way to the page of Jim Konish, the band member with the coolest instrument of all, the blues
harp. (Blues harp is slang for harmonica.) I actually have 20 harps, 2 of them are autographed by a couple of the best harp
players in the world (Magic Dick and Charlie Musselwhite), 3 are more or less functional spares, 3 are broken, and I use the
other 12. I taught myself to play, starting in the summer of 2003, and took lessons for 6 weeks last fall, but I remain mostly
self-taught. I'm currently a sophomore dual majoring in electrical and computer systems engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic
Institute (RPI). I play trumpet and harp in the Campus Serenaders Swing Band, and try to find time to play harp
solo or with other musicians at every jam session and open mic I can find.
Another bit of important information:
I'm a compulsive harp player. Whenever I hear a blues chord progression, I have an irrepressible urge to pull out a harp (I
always carry at least one around with me) and start soloing.
